My Experience & the Top 5 SEO Agencies for Baidu

•

I’ve been living in China for 10 years now. My Name is Mike, when I first arrived, I didn’t speak a word of Chinese. I came here for work, then stayed for the culture, the food, and the energy of this place. Like many foreigners who start a business or work in marketing here, I quickly learned that Google is not the main search engine in China.

Instead, it’s Baidu.

Baidu is like the Google of China. You know in China,  People use it every day to search for everything   from news, food, local services to luxury products and B2B suppliers. If you want to be visible online in China, especially in Chinese, you need to be on Baidu.(not Google)

But SEO for Baidu is not the same as Google. It’s a different system. It’s more language-focused, more local, and often more complicated. Over the years, I’ve worked with several SEO agencies in China , some good, some average, some just talk. Here’s my personal take on the top 5 SEO agencies for Baidu, based on experience, results, and real conversations.

1. GMA (Gentlemen Marketing Agency) – Best Overall

GMA is the one I recommend the most (everybody know them in Shanghai) . I’ve worked with them on two different projects ,  one in B2C and one B2B. Both times, they delivered real results. They have a team of local Chinese and foreigners, based in Shanghai.

SEO is in their DNA. You can tell from the way they talk, like Olivier VEROT founder, how they audit your site, and the strategy they give you. They don’t just throw keywords around ,  they go deep into content, backlinks, Baidu indexing, page speed, mobile optimization, etc.

They are also cost-effective compared to big corporate agencies. I never felt like they were just trying to upsell me things. And most importantly ,  they bring results. After 5 months, we were ranking on Baidu for several top keywords.

If you’re serious about Baidu SEO, I would start with GMA.

2. Digital Crew – Flexible & Friendly

Digital Crew is another agency I’ve tried. They are based in multiple countries — including China and Australia. My experience with them was not bad. They are very flexible   they try to fit your needs, your budget, and your goals.

They’re good at communication. The team is responsive, and they understand how to deal with both Chinese platforms and international clients. Their SEO work is solid, but I didn’t feel the same deep Baidu focus as GMA.

Still, if you want a mix of branding and SEO, and a team that can move fast, Digital Crew is a good option.

3. SEO Mandarin – Small Team, Personal Service

SEO Mandarin is run by a foreigner who has been doing Baidu SEO for a while. He knows what he’s talking about. I had a few Talk with him, and I liked that he explains everything clearly   how Baidu works, what content ranks, and why.

The downside is that he doesn’t have a big team. It’s mostly him doing the work, or managing freelancers. So if you have a big website or need long-term SEO, it might be hard for him to scale.

Also, some Chinese clients may not trust a foreign-only team for Baidu SEO. It’s still a very local platform. But if you want personalized service, and you trust the guy (he’s honest), SEO Mandarin is worth checking.

4. Jademond Digital – Looks Good, But Mostly PPC?

I found Jademond Digital (on Google) when I was comparing agencies for a paid campaign. They look very professional, and their website has lots of information. Their team seems experienced in both SEO and PPC.

But when I contacted them, I had the feeling they are more focused on PPC (Pay-per-click) than organic SEO. Their answers were good, but I couldn’t see many SEO case studies. Also, they weren’t very clear about timelines or what exact results to expect.

So maybe they are better for brands that want to mix Baidu ads with a bit of SEO. But if you want pure Baidu SEO, I would still go with GMA.

5. Sekkei Studio – Stylish, But Pricey & No Guarantees

Sekkei is based in Shanghai and they offer a wide range of digital services. Their website is clean, their pitch sounds good. They offer Baidu SEO, more forcus on social media, WeChat, website design, etc.

I talked to David for a project a few years ago. He was professional, but their offer felt overpriced compared to others. Also, they didn’t provide clear KPIs or results. SEO takes time, I know, but I like when agencies say: “Here’s what we’ll try to rank, and when.”

If budget is not an issue and you like working with a full-service agency, maybe they’re for you. But for me, I needed results and transparency. 😉

My Conclusion

Living and working in China taught me that you can’t use the same marketing playbook here. Baidu is not Google. You need the right strategy, and more importantly, the right local team.

Out of all the agencies I’ve worked with or spoken to, GMA stands out as the most reliable and result-driven for Baidu SEO. They understand the culture, the platform, and what actually works.

If you’re entering the Chinese market or want to improve your visibility on Baidu — start with someone who’s done it before, in Chinese, and with results to prove it.

Hope this helps someone out there trying to figure out Baidu SEO. It’s a challenge, but with the right partner, it works.
